Congresswoman Karen Bass endorses Jared Huffman for Congress

SAN RAFAEL, CA – Today, Congresswoman and former Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D- CA 33) has announced her support for, congressional candidate, Assemblymember Jared Huffman in the race for the open 2nd Congressional District of California.

“Jared brings a unique combination of progressive values and results-oriented pragmatism to his work,” said Bass. “We need his leadership in Congress.”
 
Congresswoman Bass joins over 100 highly respected female leaders from government, business, agriculture, and other fields who are endorsing Huffman’s bid for Congress, including:  U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo; California Attorney General Kamala Harris; former North Coast/North Bay Assemblywomen Patty Berg, Virginia Strom-Martin, and Kerry Mazzoni; and more than 50 women who are current or former local elected leaders in the 2nd Congressional District.   

“I’m honored to be endorsed by a leader of such stature, grace and accomplishment as Congresswoman Bass,” said Assemblymember Huffman. “She has broken so many barriers and is truly a rising star in national politics.  I am looking forward to working with her in Congress.”  

In 2008, Huffman supported Congresswomen Bass as the first African-American Speaker of any state legislature and he served on her leadership team in the Assembly.  Congresswoman Bass now represents California’s 33rd district in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she was selected by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to serve on the prestigious Steering and Policy Committee, which sets the policy direction of the Democratic Caucus. Bass is also a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

About Jared Huffman

Jared Huffman currently represents Southern Sonoma and Marin Counties in the California State Assembly. Huffman started his political career as a member of the Marin Municipal Water District (MWWD) in 1994. He served 12 years on the board, including three terms as Board President before besting five Democrats in a heavily contested race for the State Assembly in the June 2006 Primary.

Huffman graduated magna cum laude from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and cum laude from Boston College Law School. Prior to law school he was a three-time NCAA All-American athlete and was a member of USA Volleyball Team in 1987 when the team was ranked #1 in the world and had recently won the world championship. Huffman lives in Marin with his wife Susan, a teacher, and their children, Abby (age 12) and Nathan (age 9). In his free time, Huffman enjoys fishing, tennis and home winemaking.
