Democratic Leader, Congressman Barney Frank Endorses Jared Huffman for Congress

SAN RAFAEL, CA – Today, longtime Congressman and equal rights advocate Barney Frank (D- MA 4) announced his endorsement of Assemblymember Jared Huffman in the race for the open 2nd Congressional District in California.  Congressman Frank will join Huffman for campaign events in Marin and Sonoma counties on May 6th.  Details on the events with Congressman Frank are available at Huffman’s campaign website, www.jaredhuffman.com/events.

Congressman Frank is the Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee and an outspoken leader of core democratic issues in Congress. Additionally, Congressman Frank is known as a champion on LGBT issues, including the successful fight to end “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

 

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Congressman Barney Frank, who has been a tireless advocate for democratic values in Washington.  His leadership on equal rights, among many other key issues, is an inspiration,” said Huffman.

 

In the Assembly, Jared has earned a career 100% voting record with Equality California. Among other things, he has voted for legislation to ensure marriage equality, recognize out-of-state same sex marriages, prohibit discrimination against transgendered individuals, and create  “Harvey Milk Day”.

About Jared Huffman

Jared Huffman currently represents Southern Sonoma and Marin Counties in the California State Assembly. Huffman started his political career as a member of the Marin Municipal Water District (MWWD) in 1994. He served 12 years on the board, including three terms as Board President before besting five Democrats in a heavily contested race for the State Assembly in the June 2006 Primary.

Huffman graduated magna cum laude from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and cum laude from Boston College Law School. Prior to law school he was a three-time NCAA All-American athlete and was a member of USA Volleyball Team in 1987 when the team was ranked #1 in the world and had recently won the world championship. Huffman lives in Marin with his wife Susan, a teacher, and their children, Abby (age 12) and Nathan (age 9). In his free time, Huffman enjoys fishing, tennis and home winemaking.
