SAN RAFAEL, CA- Today, the California Federation of Teachers (CFT), as part of a dual endorsement, endorsed Jared Huffman in the race for the open 2nd Congressional District in California. Jared has made public education a top priority in his bid for Congress. He promises to fight for increased federal funding of special education under the IDEA, and to reform the rigid, punitive, and unfunded “No Child Left Behind” policy. Education is a core value for Huffman. In addition to being married to a teacher and having two children in public schools, he is an adjunct professor at Dominican University where he taught a course in Constitutional Law last semester.

“The California Federation of Teachers is proud to endorse Jared in his campaign for Congressional District 2. We look forward to working with Jared to promote issues pertaining to California’s educational system, public employees, and protecting the interests of working families,” said Joshua Pechthalt, President of the California Federation of Teachers.

“I am very proud to have the endorsement of the California Federation of Teachers, and the 120,000 educational employees they represent,” said Huffman. “Ensuring that every child in this country has the opportunity for a first-class public education is a top priority. I’m continually inspired by the dedication of our educators and I look forward to partnering with the education community on federal reforms and funding strategies as a member of Congress.”

Huffman is one of two in the 2nd Congressional race to receive CFT's dual endorsement. CFT is added to a long list of educators endorsing Jared, including California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson and more than 50 education leaders, in his bid for Congress. The list includes dozens of current and former school board members as well as numerous school superintendents. Additionally, Jared was recently honored as “Legislator of the Year” by California’s County School Superintendents Association (CCSESA).
