What we're up against!

Friday, March 29, 2013

Dear Friends,

It's been a busy first three months in Congress!  In the Budget Committee and on the floor of the House, I've fought hard against draconian cuts in the Ryan Budget that would shred our social safety net, repeal historic healthcare reforms, and put our economic recovery at risk....

Business and Labor agree – Huffman is the choice for Congress.

San Rafael - This past week in the race for the California 2nd Congressional District, Assemblymember Jared Huffman announced the support of the North Bay Leadership Council (NBLC), a coalition of leading employers in Marin, Sonoma and Napa Counties.  They join the California Small Business Association (CSBA), a non-partisan group that represents over 203,000 California small business owners, in supporting Huffman for Congress. He has also received the endorsement of the largest labor federation in the state, the California Labor Federation. Adding to his list of key environmental supporters, the Sierra Club officially endorsed Assemblymember Jared Huffman and one other candidate.

Another week and another poll shows Jared Huffman in the lead.

This week we saw another campaign release an internal poll that shows Huffman maintains his first place lead. It also shows that the race for 2nd place is still up in the air.

Considering that the campaigns are just starting to spend real money on voter communication, two things are clear for the June Primary:

1)   Assemblymember Jared Huffman is hitting his stride just as voters are beginning to engage in the election. With a strong grassroots network that spans the district, support from key leaders and organizations and the resources to run an effective campaign that covers the entire district Jared will be able to get out his message -  “Democratic Values. Real Results.”

2)   The race for the second place spot is yet to be determined, but it is clear that several candidateshave now decided that the time is right to make their move. While these candidates trade charges and counter-charges, Huffman will continue to focus on the issues and highlight his record of achievements as evidenced by the coverage at a recent candidate debate:

“Huffman remained above the fray Tuesday night, emphasizing his legislative success during six years in the Assembly.” (Opponent questions Lawson's business expertise during congressionaldebate,Marin Independent Journal, April 17, 2012)
