What we're up against!

Friday, March 29, 2013

Dear Friends,

It's been a busy first three months in Congress!  In the Budget Committee and on the floor of the House, I've fought hard against draconian cuts in the Ryan Budget that would shred our social safety net, repeal historic healthcare reforms, and put our economic recovery at risk....

I met Jared Huffman a couple of years ago at our kids' school open house and have since gotten to know him at Boy Scout meetings and community gatherings.

I've followed his work in the Assembly and have been genuinely impressed by his record and commitment to jobs, education, women's rights and the environment.

I moved to California from Washington, D.C. at the height of the boom in 1998, when the allure of the California dream was still alive and well.

In the 14 years since I've made my home in Marin, I've watched that dream fade and have become concerned for the future of my three young sons.

Even as a former political campaign worker and policy hound, I too had become disenchanted with the rancorous political system.

But Jared has inspired hope.

He's not your "typical" politician. He loves making policy — working collaboratively to advance innovative ideas.

With a top team of economic development professionals, business leaders and stakeholders, he has made bold plans to stimulate our economy by investing in well-paying jobs — such as in clean energy, food systems and sustainable resource management; 21st century jobs that will allow my family to thrive right here at home.

Jared is the kind of person you want representing us in Congress — visionary, substantive, hardworking, principled — with proven legislative success.

He's a grounded family man and a nice guy to boot.

With leaders like him, the California dream is still within reach. Please do your part and vote June 5.
