Friday, March 29, 2013

Dear Friends,

It's been a busy first three months in Congress!  In the Budget Committee and on the floor of the House, I've fought hard against draconian cuts in the Ryan Budget that would shred our social safety net, repeal historic healthcare reforms, and put our economic recovery at risk....

Today, the California Teachers Association (CTA) endorsed Assemblymember Jared Huffman in the race for the open 2nd Congressional District in California. The CTA represents more than 325,000 public school teachers, counselors, librarians, and other non-supervisory professionals, making it California's largest professional employee organization.

Public education is a core value for Huffman and a top priority in his bid for Congress. He promises to fight for increased federal funding for special education under IDEA, and to reform the rigid, punitive, and underfunded “No Child Left Behind” policy.  Huffman’s direct personal connection to public education includes the fact that he is a product of public schools, as well as a public school parent and is married to a teacher.

The CTA is added to a long list of organizations and educators endorsing Huffman’s congressional campaign, including the California Federation of Teachers, California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, and more than 50 national, state, and local educational leaders. Additionally, Jared was recently honored as “Legislator of the Year” by California’s County School Superintendents Association (CCSESA).
