Rollout of “Women for Huffman” will include major announcements each day this week

SAN RAFAEL, CA –Assemblymember Jared Huffman today announced endorsements of his campaign for Congress by two leading Bay Area women in national politics: United States Senator Dianne Feinstein and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo.

The Feinstein and Eshoo endorsements are the first of what Huffman promises will be a full week of announcements of leading women who are supporting his candidacy for Congress. The week will culminate with the rollout of a major event featuring a keynote appearance by one of the most prominent women in statewide elected office. The announcements will be made each day on Twitter and Facebook.

Senator Feinstein stated:  “I’ve worked with Jared over the years and been very impressed by his command of water issues, his commitment to the environment, and his ability to tackle complex challenges and get things done. Jared is the kind of principled and effective leader we need more of in Congress right now and he has my full support.”

Feinstein is California’s senior Senator, having served since her election 1992. Among her many groundbreaking accomplishments, Senator Feinstein was the first woman to chair the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies and presided over the Inauguration of President Barack Obama on January 20, 2009. Senator Feinstein's career has been one of firsts. She was the first woman President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman Mayor of San Francisco, the first woman elected Senator of California, and the first woman member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Congresswoman Eshoo has represented her peninsula area district since her election in 1992. She serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee and is Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, which has primary jurisdiction over the Internet and telecommunications, and co-chairs the Congressional Internet Caucus.

“I am fortunate to have strong working relationships with some amazing, pioneering women who are making a difference at the national, state, and community levels,” said Assemblymember Huffman. “The fact that Senator Feinstein, Congresswoman Eshoo, and dozens of other leading women are endorsing my campaign means a lot to me because I’ve worked hard and produced results on issues that matter to women – from my 100% legislative voting record on women’s issues, to my years as a civil rights attorney fighting for gender equity under Title IX and representing women in workplace discrimination cases.”

In the state legislature, Jared has consistently stood up for women’s rights, earning a 100% career voting record from Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and the California National Organization for Women. In addition, Jared has authored legislation to strengthen workplace safety for nurses, secure millions in critical funding for breast cancer research, and prevent unjustified health insurance rate increases.
