Dear Friends,

It's been a busy first three months in Congress!  In the Budget Committee and on the floor of the House, I've fought hard against draconian cuts in the Ryan Budget that would shred our social safety net, repeal historic healthcare reforms, and put our economic recovery at risk....

SAN RAFAEL – Wasting no time in the wake of his victory last week in California’s 2nd Congressional District, Congressman-elect Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) announced today that he has made two key staffing decisions: Ben Miller will serve as Huffman's Chief of Staff in Washington, D.C., and Jenny Callaway will serve as his District Director in California.

"When I'm sworn in, I intend to hit the ground running, and having talented professionals like Ben and Jenny on my team will allow me to do just that," said Huffman, who was elected last week to represent the new North Coast district. "With these two leadership positions already in place, my team is taking shape and we will be able to get right to work in January."

Miller joins Huffman's staff from the office of Congressman George Miller (D-Martinez), where he has served as the Legislative Director and Deputy Chief of Staff. During his years of service, Miller (who is not related to the Congressman) has managed a range of successful projects and legislative efforts, including serving as Congressman Miller’s top aide on natural resources and energy policy. As Chief of Staff for Congressman-elect Huffman, Miller will be responsible for the overall management of the congressional office. “Ben has excelled as a senior member of Congressman Miller’s staff and has developed strong relationships in California and in Washington,” said Huffman.  “His practical experience navigating the legislative process and his familiarity with issues critical to my district make him a perfect fit for my Chief of Staff.”

Callaway will be joining the congressional staff from her current position as Huffman's Assembly District Director, where she oversees his Marin and Sonoma offices and works on a full range of local issues including education, agriculture, environment, prisons, transportation, and local government. She has served in this capacity for five years, and has led a constituent-focused operation that is responsive, effective, and efficient. Callaway is a longtime resident of the North Bay, and is well known for her work as a public school advocate, serving two terms on the San Rafael City Schools Board of Education and more recently on the governance team of MarinKids. She is also Chairman of the Board of the Agricultural Institute of Marin / The Bay Area's Farmers Markets.  “Jenny has been my right hand person in the district for the past five years, and I’m fortunate that she will continue as my District Director,” said Huffman.  “With her proven skills, established relationships, and high standards, our district offices will do a great job serving the residents and communities I represent.”

Huffman will make additional announcements regarding his transition to Congress in the coming weeks. He will be sworn in as a member of the 113th Congress in early January 2013.
