Dear Friends,

It's been a busy first three months in Congress!  In the Budget Committee and on the floor of the House, I've fought hard against draconian cuts in the Ryan Budget that would shred our social safety net, repeal historic healthcare reforms, and put our economic recovery at risk....

SAN RAFAEL, CA –
Today, the Jared Huffman campaign for Congress announced the endorsement of the Sierra Club in the 2nd Congressional District race. The Sierra Club is one of the largest and most influential grassroots environmental organizations in the United States. Founded in 1892 in San Francisco, the Sierra Club now has over 160,000 members in California alone.

“In a district that spans over 500 miles of coast line, it is critical that we elect someone with the passion and ability to protect our environment. Jared Huffman has a proven record of standing up to polluters and passing critical environmental protections. Huffman has the ability to be a true environmental champion in Congress,” said Ken Brame, Chair of the Sierra Club National Political Committee.

As Chair of the Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee in the Assembly, Huffman has addressed a range of environmental issues — from resource conservation to renewable energy expansion and public health protection. Now Jared Huffman is leading the fight to keep California’s parks open.

“It is a true honor to have the endorsement of the Sierra Club and the hundreds of thousands of environmentalists they represent across the country. I began my public service career working to protect California’s water and am committed to continuing the fight for the environment in Congress,” said Huffman.

Huffman has a long history of working on environmental issues in Northern California. Before being elected to the Assembly, Jared served on the board of the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) for twelve years. Later, he became a senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), where he helped forge an agreement that is currently restoring a 153-mile stretch of the San Joaquin River in California's Central Valley, one of the most degraded rivers in America.

Huffman is one of two in the 2nd District Congressional race to receive Sierra Club’s dual endorsement. The Sierra Club is added to an impressive list of environmental groups that have already announced their support for Huffman, including every environmental group to take a position in the race: California League of Conservation Voters, Environment California, Friends of the Earth Action Fund, Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, Ocean Champions, Forests Forever, and others, and by legendary environmental leaders throughout the 2nd Congressional District.
