Congressman. Outdoorsman.
Enivronmentalist. Humanist. Dad.
Meet Jared
Jared Huffman has represented California’s 2nd Congressional District, which spans from the Golden Gate Bridge north to the Oregon border and includes Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte Counties since he was first elected to Congress in 2012.
In Congress, he has built a reputation as a problem-solver and a tireless champion for the North Coast.
He is widely recognized as one of the foremost leaders on climate action and environmental protection.
In 2025, his colleagues elected him to serve as the top Democrat (Ranking Member) on the House Natural Resources Committee.
Jared is also a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Throughout his time in Congress, Jared has been a fierce defender of democracy and the rule of law.
He was one of the first and most active members advocating for Donald Trump’s impeachment in both 2019 and 2021.
In 2024, he led congressional efforts to sound the alarm about Trump’s Project 2025 as a grave threat to democracy and fundamental rights, founding the congressional Stop Project 2025 Task Force.
Jared is a Vice-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and serves as co-Chair of the Congressional Freethought Caucus, which he co-founded with Rep. Jamie Raskin in 2018 to protect separation of church and state, defend religious freedom, and promote public policies based on reason, science and moral values.
Before Congress, Jared served six years in the California Assembly, where he chaired the Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee and passed landmark water reforms, clean energy policies, and environmental protection laws—many of which became national models.
Earlier in his career, Jared was a Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), where he helped restore 153 miles of the San Joaquin River. Before NRDC, he was a successful public interest attorney, winning several major jury verdicts in gender discrimination and race discrimination trials. He also served 12 years in local government as a Director of the Marin Municipal Water District.
Jared graduated magna cum laude from UC Santa Barbara, where he was a three-time NCAA All-American volleyball player. He went on to play for the USA Volleyball Team in 1987 — then ranked #1 in the world — and earned his law degree cum laude from Boston College.
He lives in Marin with his wife Susan, a public school teacher. They have two children, Abby and Nathan. When he’s not working, you’ll likely find Jared hiking, fishing, battling his local tennis rivals, or jamming on guitar with the local folk-rock band SoloRio.
In Congress, Jared has fought to:
Secure federal disaster relief for fire-impacted communities
Deliver millions in federal investments for local and regional infrastructure priorities, including SMART, the Port of Humboldt, and seismic upgrades for the Golden Gate Bridge
Defend and advance the historic dam removal project on the Klamath River
Lead the largest federal investment in offshore wind on the West Coast in Humboldt County, creating new clean energy jobs and boosting the regional economy
Secure millions for clean energy and broadband service in tribal communities
Win permanent protection for the Stornetta Public Lands National Monument
Restore salmon habitat, clean up toxic waste sites, and expand climate resilience projects throughout the district
Spearhead passage of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, shaping key fire resilience, water infrastructure, and climate provisions of those transformative laws
Strengthen funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), ensuring schools have the resources to support every child’s learning needs
From the coast to the mountains, no one stands up for Northern California like Jared Huffman.
